As the film progresses, so too does the tension between Hooper and Quint, though the same could be said for the actors.
Richard Dreyfuss and Robert Shaw, who played the respective characters, did not get on well at all, mostly due to the latter constantly drinking, which often meant a lot of film stock was wasted after he messed up his lines.
Eventually, Richard got tired of his co-stars antics, and threw one of Robert’s drinks overboard during filming.
The actor was even under the influence for his famous Indianapolis speech, though eventually managed to nail the entire monologue in one take after a few misfires.
