Origins
'Jaws’ may be a cinematic masterpiece, but its story first began on the page, not on the silver screen.
The movie is a loose adaption of Peter Benchley’s novel of the same name, which itself is based on a number of shark attacks that occurred off the coast of New Jersey in 1916.
Before settling on the book's title as the movie's moniker, other titles were floated, including ‘The Silence of the Deep’, ‘Leviathan Rising’ and ‘The Stillness in the Water’.
