In the movie, the Witch is melted with a bucket of water but in real life , actress Margaret Hamilton was burned alive.

A lack of CGI meant that the Witch's cloud of orange smoke in Munchkinland was real fire.

When timings went wrong with a trap door, the flames hit Hamilton's copper green makeup and she was hospitalized for six weeks.
