George McFly recast in the sequel
George McFly was a major part of the plot in the original movie, but his role in the 1989 sequel was drastically reduced due Crispin Glover walking away from the franchise.
Glover played Marty’s father as a high school student in the 1985 movie, but when it came to making the second instalment he demanded a fee of $1 million due to the success of the first film.
Producers rejected his pay demand and, as a result, Jeffrey Weissman was brought in to play George.
Infuriated with writer Bob Gale using his likeness without his permission, Crispin later said: “They stole something, and it’s illegal to steal something, it’s really that simple.
“Bob Gale is quite literally a thief, no exaggeration.”
In 1990, the actor successfully sued the producers, claiming that his rights of publicity were infringed, and was awarded a reputed $760,000.
