‘This happy ending is the start of all our dreams…’ How Miley stopped execs from changing the finale
In 2010, Miley chose to end her run as Hannah Montana. Having already experienced success as an artist in her own right with hits like ‘Party in the USA’, she noted that she could not “base [her] career off the six-year-olds forever".
The fourth and final season, titled ‘Hannah Montana Forever’ first aired from 2010 and the character of Miley finally revealed her secret to the world in the episode ‘I’ll Always Remember You’.
The final episode, ‘Wherever I Go’, dealt with the now world-famous Miley trying to decide whether to pursue a film career or continue her education. Disney execs wanted the series to end with a very young Miley having dreamt up her pop star life but creator Michael Poryes was unhappy with this and the teen star quickly put her foot down.
He said: “I felt I wanted to send a signal for the audience who were going to college … I got my way for one reason because Miley said ‘Whatever Michael wants’. That’s the only reason it ended that way.”
