Lip-syncing is banned
Lip-syncing is a very common practice when it comes to televised music performances. However, those singers set to perform at the Grammys must sing live as miming has been banned.
The rule was established in 2012, but its origins go back to 1998 when Milli Vanilli sparked controversy after lip-syncing on MTV. At the time, and following the backlash, the R&B band even returned their Best New Artist Grammy award.
