Ex-Loose Women star Carol McGiffin wants to remarry toyboy husband in big wedding

Carol McGiffin wants to remarry her toyboy husband.

The ex-Loose Women panellist, 66, and Mark Cassidy, 44, "upset quite a few people" when they eloped to Bangkok, Thailand, in February 2018 as Carol "hated the idea" of forking out on a dress and "expensive trimmings", and deciding who attends.

But the star now secretly wants a proper big wedding after she came across five white dresses, which she bought in 2009, a year after Mark popped the question, after he met Carol at a Loose Women wrap party.

Carol wrote in her latest Best magazine column: "I felt sad because somewhere in my psyche, I must have wanted the big white wedding, but just like Miss Havisham in Great Expectations, I never had it."

The Celebrity Big Brother 2013 housemate was shocked she fit perfectly into the "pristine" dresses after almost 20 years, which made Carol want to follow through with the idea of saying "I do" to Mark, surrounded by family and friends.

The broadcaster - who cannot recall her and Mark's vows because they were in Thai - not only wants to get married again so she can wear one of her white dresses, but to get a better wedding picture.

In Bangkok, Mark sported shorts, and Carol donned long trousers because she had a "massive bandage around my knee" when they got hitched.

And with the couple's 10-year wedding fast approaching, Carol thinks the perfect way to celebrate is by having a proper nuptials.

The What's Your Problem podcast co-host said: "Neither Mark nor I can believe we made it this far. And surely that's something to celebrate?"

Carol added: "Now I just have to convince my shy, introvert, hates-being-the-centre-of-attention husband, it's a good idea..."

The journalist previously said she and Mark - who live in France - had "no plans" to renew their vows, but will "probably will do something special closer to the time".

After being together for almost 20 years, Carol thinks her and Mark's relationship gets stronger as time goes on, saying: "We do something special every other weekend - not just on our anniversaries."

And in 2017, Carol hit back at critics who had commented on their age gap, and said she and Mark are living proof that a big age gap can work.

Writing in her Best magazine column in 2017, Carol said: "Some people will never get their heads around the idea that an older woman can make it work with a younger man.

"It can work - I’m living proof of that, as Mark and I are coming up to nine years together, and we’re stronger than ever.

"Anyone who doesn’t like the idea should shut their mouth, because it’s not your life, it’s ours. We’re the only ones who need to worry about our ages."

Carol was previously married to Virgin Radio DJ Chris Evans from 1991 until 1998, and she recently admitted on a recent episode of Best magazine's Suddenly Single podcast: "I don't really know why we got married."
