Coronation Street and Emmerdale 'on alert because of prankster'
ITV bosses are on high alert following recent incidents involving Mr Airborne, a social media prankster.
Coronation Street and Emmerdale are on alert after a prankster found their way onto the sets of rival soaps.
Mr Airborne, a well-known social media prankster, recently posted behind-the-scenes videos of himself sneaking his way onto the sets of Hollyoaks and EastEnders, and those incidents have put bosses at Coronation Street and Emmerdale on high alert.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "Security have been made aware of the situation and have been told to be extra vigilant.
"If he can get into Hollyoaks and EastEnders there’s a real fear that Corrie and Emmerdale could be next."
Mr Airborne's recent visit to the Hollyoaks set saw him leak that Ste Hay, played by Kieron Richardson, is set to go missing in the coming weeks.
The insider explained: "It’s a nightmare. Everyone works so hard to keep storylines top secret but someone trespassing onto the set and filming everything could ruin months of hard work."
Despite this, Coronation Street bosses insist they already have robust security measures in place.
ITV said: "In light of recent news articles, we are aware of these incidents, however security at all ITV sites remains at previously agreed levels with no reactive change."
Meanwhile, ITV recently announced plans to sell its media and entertainment divisions to Sky for £1.6 billion.
Sky chief executive Dana Strong called the move "a defining moment for British media" as they seek to create a rival to global streaming platforms, such as Netflix and Amazon.
Sky said in a statement: "The UK media market is undergoing a profound and rapid transformation, and as competition for audiences intensifies, scale matters more than ever in order to compete with global streaming giants and YouTube in the UK."
The deal represents one of the biggest takeovers in British media history, but there are no plans to make major changes to popular TV shows, such as Coronation Street, This Morning, and Love Island, in the immediate future.
Sky explained: "Viewers will continue to enjoy the shows they know and love, such as Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Love Island, I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!, This Morning, Loose Women, Lorraine and News at Ten – alongside major live sporting events."
