Kareena Kapoor Khan feels honoured that her film 'The Buckingham Murders' will open the upcoming Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival.

The 43-year-old actress stars in the new thriller and also worked as a producer, and she's delighted that the movie has been selected to launch the glitzy industry event in Mumbai later this month.

She said in a statement: "It’s a place where movies are celebrated and all creative art forms are honoured. Can’t be happier to have our film grace the stage at Jio MAMI. ‘The Buckingham Murders’ is very special for me since it’s my maiden voyage as a co-producer. Working with [director] Hansal [Mehta] and [co-producer] Ektaa [Kapoor] is a deeply satisfying and immersive process. We are only hoping our film will reach wider audiences and break barriers globally."

Khan plays a police officer in the new film and she recently admitted she was thrilled to tackle the role because she's always been a massive fan of female detective stories.

Sharing some photos from the film - which recently premiered at the London Film Festival - Kareena wrote on Instagram: "Jas was a character I have been waiting to play for the last 23 years, being a huge fan of the detective series genre… watching everything from Karamchand to Helen Mirren in Prime Suspect to Hercule Poirot in Agatha Christie to Kate Winslet in Mare of Easttown, I was just dying to be that detective woman."

She continued: "Ekta, Hansal and I set off on this journey to make a slightly unconventional film, but a film that is with heart, a bit of a smile, and, oh my god, lots of tears... It played at the British Film Institute last night, and as this film starts its journey... in the world of movies... I couldn’t be more nervous and excited as an actor and a first-time producer... I feel so odd writing that … but I feel really cool …(sic)"

The film will open the Mumbai Film Festival on October 27.
