Porter Ranch BMX Chase - E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
One of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial’s most magical moments was filmed around Porter Ranch in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley, where Elliott and his friends race through the neighbourhood on BMX bikes while fleeing government agents.
In Steven Spielberg’s 1982 classic, starring Henry Thomas, Dee Wallace, Robert MacNaughton and Drew Barrymore, the chase reaches its unforgettable climax when E.T. uses his powers to lift the boys and their bikes into the air, sending them soaring above the pursuing authorities.
The sequence helped turn the silhouette of Elliott and E.T. flying across the moon into one of cinema’s most recognisable images, later becoming the emblem of Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment.
