Hollywood United Methodist Church - Sister Act (1992)
Whoopi Goldberg’s Deloris Van Cartier famously finds sanctuary in a convent in Sister Act, and parts of that religious world were created at Hollywood United Methodist Church at 6817 Franklin Avenue, Hollywood.
The 1992 comedy, also starring Maggie Smith, Harvey Keitel and Kathy Najimy, follows nightclub singer Deloris as she enters witness protection disguised as a nun and transforms the convent choir.
Hallways, classrooms and offices at the church were used for interior scenes, with filmmakers even ageing the interiors for the production.
Movie fans get an extra bonus because the church also hosted filming for Back to the Future (1985), Back to the Future Part II (1989), Big Momma’s House (2000), Anger Management (2003) and Jarhead (2005).
