The sequel that never was

Following the massive commercial success of Se7en, New Line Cinema was eager to develop a sequel.

Initially, the studio considered incorporating Detective Somerset into the script for Solace - a film about a psychic investigating a serial killer. However, the idea was eventually scrapped, and the film was released in 2015 with Sir Anthony Hopkins in the lead role.

When asked about returning for a Se7en sequel, Morgan Freeman firmly declined the offer.

Director David Fincher was even more resolute in his disinterest, feeling the film was a standalone story.
