A different director

Before David Fincher took on the role of director for Seven, Guillermo del Toro was originally offered the job.

While he admired the script, The Shape of Water filmmaker ultimately passed on the opportunity, feeling that the story presented “a very cynical view of the world”.

He recounted: “I loved it, I wanted to see it, but I’m a romantic, and I don’t subscribe to that view.”
