Sending 270 million free books to children
Dolly founded her non-profit organization, The Dollywood Foundation, in 1988 to inspire children in her native Sevier County, Tennessee. In 1995, the foundation launched its flagship initiative, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, a monthly book-gifting programme created to honour her illiterate father. By the time of her passing, the international programme had mailed more than 270 million free books directly to the homes of children under the age of five across five different countries.
