Comeback and hardship
As the 1980s gave way to the 1990s, Cher faced a series of personal challenges. While continuing to pursue her film career, she also ventured into infomercials, promoting health, beauty, and diet products—a move that reportedly earned her $10 million.
Although some critics later labelled her a “sell-out,” a major musical comeback was on the horizon with the release of the now-iconic hit ‘Believe’.
Then, in 1998, tragedy struck when Cher’s ex-husband Sonny Bono died in a skiing accident.
She delivered a heartfelt eulogy at his funeral, later reflecting: “I couldn’t ignore it, could I? I might have if I cared more about what people think than what I know is right for me.”
