Cher has insisted she holds no grudge against Michael Douglas after he suggested Glenn Close should have won the Best Actress Oscar instead of her in 1988.

The 80-year-old singer and actress responded through her representative on Tuesday (03.11.26), following the actor's remarks about her victory for 'Moonstruck'.

Her representative told Entertainment Weekly: "Cher adores Michael Douglas."

Douglas, 82, made the comments during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show on Friday (30.10.26), alongside his 'Fatal Attraction' co-star Close, 79.

Looking back at the 1988 Academy Awards, he argued that Close deserved the prize for her performance in the psychological thriller.

He said: "She should have won with Fatal Attraction."

When host Graham Norton expressed surprise that Cher had beaten Close, Douglas replied: "I know, that's what we all said!"

The comment prompted laughter from the audience, although Close quickly stepped in to defend the singer.

She told her former co-star: "Michael, be kind!"

Cher won the Oscar for playing Loretta Castorini in the romantic comedy 'Moonstruck', which also starred Nicolas Cage.

The singer had previously received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 1983 drama 'Silkwood'.

Douglas also enjoyed success at the 1988 ceremony, winning Best Actor for his performance in Oliver Stone's 'Wall Street'.

Meanwhile, 'Fatal Attraction' received six nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director, but failed to win an award.

Close has since earned eight competitive Oscar nominations without winning and is due to receive an honorary Academy Award at the Governors Awards later this month.

During the television interview, Douglas also revealed that the producers of 'Fatal Attraction' initially doubted Close was suitable for the role of Alex Forrest.

However, her agent insisted she be allowed to audition, and she went on to secure one of the most memorable roles of her career.
