Mississippi Burning

Another of Hackman’s top films is ‘Mississippi Burning’.

The 1988 crime thriller - which also starred Frances McDormand, Willem Dafoe and Brad Dourif - told the story of two FBI agents who travel to Mississippi to investigate the mysterious disappearance of three civil rights workers, where they are met by a hostile response from locals.

Gene's performance earned him as Oscar nomination in the Best Actor category.
