As as result of the first film’s small budget, Leone had to go old school to achieve the splatter and gore seen on screen.
Therefore, the vast majority of Art's attacks and explicit sequences were achieved through practical effects.
Leone later revealed: “I would say 98 per cent of the film is practical and I used the smallest amount of CGI to just enhance the practicals. Sometimes there may have been a need to remove a blood tube, or make a gash look deeper than it was in reality.”
