Missing Meryl

‘The Devil Wears Prada’ is often touted as one of Meryl Streep’s best career performances, but the actress very nearly didn't appear in the movie.

In fact, the Oscar-winning star was originally low-balled.

She called the initial offer “if not insulting, not perhaps reflective of my actual value to the project".

Due to her dissatisfaction, Meryl opted to walk away from the project.

After reconsidering their offer, the producers caved and doubled the figure.

She said: “I was 55, and I had just learned, at a very late date, how to deal on my own behalf.”
