Casting Anne Hathaway
Andy Sachs is perhaps one of Anne Hathaway’s greatest roles, but the actress wasn’t always going to play the timid young journalist.
Over 100 Hollywood stars - including the likes of Rachel McAdams - were considered for the role, with the ‘Mean Girls’ actress even getting an offer from 20th Century Fox before she decided to turn it down.
Eventually, the producers’ attention turned to Anne, though were initially unsure whether she had the acting chops needed to helm the flick after appearing in kids’ movies like ‘The Princess Diaries’ and ‘Ella Enchanted’.
In a desperate attempt the win the part, Anne wrote “hire me” in the sand of a Zen garden in Carla Hacken’s office following a meeting with the executive, and her less-than-subtle tactic actually managed to work.
