The One Where The Apartment Numbers Change

When the series first starts, Monica and Rachel live in apartment five while Joey and Chandler live across the hall in apartment four.

It eventually dawned on the show’s creators that since the characters are meant to live high up in the New York block of apartments, then their numbers should at least be double digits.

In the season one episode ‘The One with the Candy Hearts’ the numbers were quietly changed to 19 and 20 and have remained that way ever since.
