Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Want to Have Fun
This light-hearted disco track became a staple of 1980s pop culture when Cyndi released it. But in fact, it had been released as a rock track by songwriter Robert Hazard in 1979. Cyndi got her hands on the track and "flipped the script" by turning it into a song sung from a female perspective. She said: "I was trying really hard to make an anthem that would inspire women and open the doors to all women."
