Nine-hour scene

While only lasting for four minutes, the scene where Andy first approaches Red about the rock hammer as the inmate plays catch in the main yard took an exhausting nine hours to film.

For all nine of those hours, Morgan Freeman threw and caught the ball without kicking up a fuss, though did show up to set the next day with his arm in a sling!
