Morgan Freeman, 89, has no intention of retiring
Morgan Freeman will be turning 90 next June (27), but told the New York Times that reaching the landmark age doesn’t mean anything in terms of continuing his career.
He might be approaching 90, but Morgan Freeman still has no intention of retiring.
The actor has enjoyed a hugely successful career in Hollywood, taking on roles including his Oscar-winning turn in 2004’s Million Dollar Baby.
He’ll be reaching the landmark age next June (27), but told the New York Times that turning 90 doesn’t mean anything in terms of continuing his career.
He joked: “I’m like Clint Eastwood on that: Don’t let the old man in,” he said. “So, keep working. If you can get out of bed and don’t fall down when you do it, then you just count your blessings and keep moving.
“So, I’ll work as long as I can — as long as somebody says, ‘Do you want to do this part?’”
Asked by the interviewer if there are any other dream roles Morgan is eyeing up for the future, he replied: “No. I’m pushing 90 now. So, the roles that I wished I had been able to play, Denzel Washington will play.”
Morgan, who can next be seen in the third season of thriller TV series Lioness, also revealed to the newspaper the unique way he chooses which projects to take on.
He explained: “If somebody offers you a job, it’s very nice if they’re offering you also an exciting script, but in reality, two or three things come into play.
“What are they going to pay you? If they’re going to pay you enough, then you overlook some of the glitches in the script that happen to be there.”
He added: “Sometimes you can mention things that are in the script that don’t quite work out for you and by and large, that gets worked out.”
When it came to signing up for Lioness, Morgan was ultimately convinced by creator Taylor Sheridan’s writing.
He mused: “His writing has to do more with the human experience, what people are actually going through, emotionally, in a lot of cases.
“You saw that a lot in Yellowstone, and you actually see it a lot in any of his writings."
The new series of Lioness will premiere on August 2.
