Tim Burton is no stranger to making musicals, two of his other works, ‘Sweeney Todd’ and ‘Corpse Bride’ are musicals, and ‘Edward Scissorhands could have joined these.

Thompson said: “Tim thought it should be a musical because he thought being surreal was more acceptable if you were doing a musical. So I wrote lyrics for a song. One song I remember was called ‘I Can't Handle It.’”

However, on reading the lyrics the director reconsidered and said it could go ahead as a straight film.
