Diana's star turn

Having conquered her solo career with three albums by 1972, Diana moved onto the big screen and enjoyed a star turn as late jazz singer Billie Holiday in the 'Lady Sings the Blues' and earned both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe nomination.

At the time, she said: "In acting, I've found a different kind of fulfilment and use a different kind of emotion than I can on stage."
