‘Dune’ had perhaps one of the longest pre-productions in cinematic history.
Work on the movie began in 1972 - 12 years before the finished product would hit the screen.
Initially, Arthur P. Jacobs, who was the creative mind behind ‘Planet of the Apes’, had announced he planned to make a film based on Frank Herbert's 1965 book, but sadly passed away in 1973.
A few years later, Dino De Laurentiis obtained the rights to the story, and began to piece together some of the ideas Arthur had worked on, as well as his own.
