Original cut
David Lynch’s original cut of ‘Dune’ ran for a whopping four hours, however, after removing some unnecessary scenes, the movie stood at nearly three hours.
Even so, Universal was unhappy with the runtime, and demanded that another hour was shaved off, prompting David to go back to the cutting room. This proved to be a bad move though, as the director was forced to remove several important scenes that added to the story and replace them with quick voice-over narration, which were then criticised by audiences who said that the finished picture felt disjointed and very confusing.
