Springfield my kind of town

The family's hometown of Springfield is very non-discreet, and that's exactly the point.

Creator Matt Groening chose that name because it is one of the most common town names in the US with 29 states having a Springfield.

However, Matt eventually revealed in 2012 that the intended location of 'The Simpsons' Springfield is in Oregon, which shouldn’t come as a surprise, considering it is near his hometown, Portland.

He said: "In anticipation of the success of the show, I thought, ‘This will be cool; everyone will think it's their Springfield.'"
