In what is perhaps his most ridiculous purchase ever, Ashton Kutcher decided it was a good idea to splash out on a ticket for a trip into space.

The 45-year-old actor, however, was forbidden to go on the journey, after his wife Mila Kunis wasn’t so over the moon to find out he had spend $200,000 on a ticket for Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo rocket in 2012.

When asked why he missed out on his chance to explore space, he said his wife had talked some sense into him to make him see it wasn’t the most sensible financial decision.

He said: "When I got married and had kids, my wife encouraged that it was not a smart family decision to be heading into space when we have young children."
