A self-taught designer
Dissuaded by her parents from following her fashion dream, Mary studied illustration and art education at Goldsmiths College instead.
However, after earning her degree in 1953, Mary reignited her passion for fashion and completed an apprenticeship with a high end Mayfair milliner, Erik of Brook Street.
Soon after, Mary opened up her own boutique 'Bazaar' in 1955, and her designs caught the attention of media thanks to her bold designs.
