Alexa Chung reveals she may have ‘haunted’ engagement ring from Tom Sturridge as she prepares to marry Sienna Miller's ex
The fashion presenter has broken her silence on wedding plans after years of speculation, revealing the extraordinary history behind her antique diamond jewellery and an unusual warning from her hairstylist.
Alexa Chung has confirmed her engagement to actor Tom Sturridge – revealing her fiancé proposed with an antique Tudor diamond ring a friend warned could be haunted.
The model and television presenter, 42, has been in a relationship with Tom, 40, for four years, with speculation about their engagement circulating since 2023.
Alexa has now publicly acknowledged their plans to marry in an interview with More Or Less magazine, explaining Tom chose a historic piece of jewellery reflecting her fascination with antiques.
The couple first made their relationship public at Wimbledon in July 2022, where they were photographed kissing while sitting near Tom’s former fiancée, actress Sienna Miller, 44.
Speaking about the unusual engagement ring, Alexa told the magazine: “My engagement ring is a Tudor... Tom knows how much I adore vintage and antiques, and he got me a beautiful Tudor ring. It's like a table-cut diamond.”
The jewellery reminded Alexa of portraits depicting members of the Tudor court, particularly those associated with Henry VIII and his second wife, Anne Boleyn, who was executed in 1536.
She said: “When I went to the National Portrait Gallery and looked at images of Anne Boleyn and all the other people who perished at the hands of Henry VIII, a lot of them had these rings on.”
However, the ring’s historical associations prompted an unexpected intervention from her hairstylist while Alexa was preparing for a fashion show in Paris.
She recalled that her stylist, Alexandri, exclaimed: “Oh my god, I think your ring is haunted.”
Alexa continued: “He took it off my finger and started making wishes around it and blowing on it. So I hope that my ring isn't haunted. Or do I? Because that's iconic.”
The interview marks Alexa’s first public confirmation of an engagement that has been the subject of speculation for more than three years.
Rumours initially emerged in June 2023 when she was photographed wearing a ring on her left hand at fashion designer Henry Holland’s 40th birthday celebrations.
Further speculation followed during Paris Fashion Week in 2024, when Alexa was again seen wearing a ring.
Reports subsequently suggested the couple were engaged and considering a small wedding, although neither publicly confirmed the claims at the time.
Alexa, who became a familiar face on British television as a co-presenter of Channel 4’s music programme Popworld, had previously expressed reservations about marriage.
In a 2018 interview with Porter magazine, she said: “I just don't get why marriage is different from non-marriage”, adding she did not need “a wedding day per se”.
Tom is best known for playing Dream, also known as Morpheus, in Netflix’s fantasy series The Sandman, based on the DC Comics stories created by Neil Gaiman.
He has also appeared in films including The Boat That Rocked and Far from the Madding Crowd, alongside his theatre work in London and New York.
Before beginning his relationship with Alexa, Tom was engaged to Sienna, with whom he shares a daughter, Marlowe Sturridge, 14.
The former couple were together from 2011 until 2015 and have maintained a close relationship while raising their daughter.
Sienna, known for her performances in Layer Cake, Factory Girl and American Sniper, is now engaged to actor Oli Green, 29, with whom she has two younger children.
The four adults have frequently been photographed together, including at Wimbledon in 2022, when Alexa and Tom were seen kissing in the stands while sitting directly behind Sienna and Oli.
They were also photographed taking a group selfie.
