Ricky Gervais vows to never appear on celebrity reality TV shows
Ricky Gervais will never appear on the likes of Celebrity Big Brother, I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!, or Celebrity Traitors.
Ricky Gervais will never go on a celebrity reality TV show - even if offered "ten million quid".
The award-winning comedian could not bear being locked in a house for weeks with a bunch of stars in Celebrity Big Brother, or ditch a luxurious lifestyle for basic rations and living in a critter-filled jungle for almost a month on I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!.
Instead, Ricky, 64, much prefers to sit down and watch these shows from the comfort of his home - just like he did with Celebrity Traitors, the ultimate game show of backstabbing, betrayal and deceit, in October.
Appearing on Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston, 54, and Zoe Hardman, 43, on Thursday morning (18.12.25), Ricky said: "I think the last time I watched real telly was Celebrity Traitors and football and that’s it."
Zoe - who is standing in for 54 year old Amanda Holden - asked the comic: "Would you ever go on Celebrity Traitors?"
Ricky adamantly replied: "No, I wouldn’t go on celebrity anything. No, there’s nothing with celebrity in front of it that you could tempt me with."
After the trio laughed, Zoe quipped: "[What about] Celebrity here’s ten million quid?"
Ricky - who is behind hit sitcoms, including The Office, Extras, Derek and After Life - responded with "no", but joked that one offer may sway him.
He quipped: "If it is just me in a five-star hotel room, then I might do it."
Ricky continued: "Turn the cameras off because they’ve got nothing. I don’t want to do anything. It is a no to everything. Big Brother, oh my God, that’s the worst! On every level, sharing a house with strangers."
But even if he was up for doing a celebrity reality TV show, I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! is a no-go because he hates spiders.
Jamie - whose Heart Radio colleague Kelly Brook, 46, was the fourth campmate to leave the jungle on the 2025 series - asked Ricky: "[How about] the jungle?"
And Ricky - who lives in a sprawling £14.5 million mansion in Hampstead, North London, with his 65-year-old long-time partner, author-and-TV presenter, Jane Fallon - said: "Oh, the jungle! Oh my God, my house is hermetically sealed, so no spiders can get in.
"So, the jungle is out of the question."
