Sherlock Holmes' David Burke left five-figure sum in will
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes star David Burke died in May at the age of 91.
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes star David Burke left almost £78,000 in his will following his death at the age of 91.
The entertainer - who passed away on May 10 - left an estate worth £77,912 to his 79-year-old wife, actress Anna Calder-Marshall, according to The Sun.
She and their 45-year-old son, actor Tom Burke, was named executors, the publication reports.
David's death was announced by his agent, Scott Marshall Partners.
And the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes Podcast immediately paid tribute to the actor, who played Dr Watson in the Granada Television series, saying: "This one hits us hard.
"It was our honour and privilege to spend some time with him a few years ago, and to keep in touch with him since – memories that will live with us forever.
"We say thank you a lot here, but in this case we couldn’t mean it anymore when we say: Dear David, thank you. Thank you for all you gave us."
Born in Liverpool on May 25, 1934, David trained as an actor at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) before playing Dr Watson in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes from 1984 until 1986, alongside Jeremy Brett in the title role.
Per The Times, David declined the chance to return for a second series as he felt "terribly guilty" about being away from his wife and son as filming took place in Manchester.
Tom added that he felt "guilty" when he got older as he thought his dad had "given up this brilliant opportunity" for him.
But David insisted: "It was my decision. I didn’t just want to work; I also wanted to be your dad.
"On top of that, I was getting bored of saying, 'Good heavens, Holmes.'"
David's other notable acting credits included ITV's soap Coronation Street, and its mystery series Midsomer Murders, as well as BBC's medical drama Casualty, and its period action-drama, The Musketeers.
In 1971, David married Anna, who has starred in the likes of ITV's detective drama Inspector Morse and its mystery drama Agatha Christie's Poirot.
Just 10 years later, they welcomed their only child, Tom, who has appeared in shows, including The Musketeers and BBC's crime drama Strike.
