Mckenna Grace has 'very bleak' warning for The Hunger Games fans
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping star Mckenna Grace has opened up about the new movie.
Mckenna Grace has warned The Hunger Games fans that Sunrise on the Reaping is "very bleak and incredibly sad".
The 20-year-old actress is playing District 12 tribute Maysilee Donner, as well as her twin sister Merrilee, in the latest prequel in the dystopian film series, and she has promised the movie will retain the dark tone from author Suzanne Collins' 2025 novel.
She told SFX magazine: "There's no beating around the bush - it's a very bleak and incredibly sad book, and this film is very much the same.
"But Francis [Lawrence, the director] has talked a lot about how this novel and film is a call to action...
"I hope that gets people talking about standing up for what you believe in, even when you're young and in a situation that feels hopeless."
Grace is a big fan of her character's drive and "anger", as well as her countless other traits.
She said: "I love Maysilee. I love how driven she is, and her anger towards the Capitol. I like her quick wit, but also her kindness.
"I like her aptitude for fashion and her criticisms of other people's choices. She's just such an interesting, fun and complicated character."
Grace is set to play Daphne in Netflix's upcoming Scooby-Doo: Origins series, and she admitted there is a parallel to the Hunger Games prequel.
She explained: "I can't say anything [about Scooby-Doo] except that I have red hair, and I'm wearing a ridiculous amount of purple in my everyday life right now.
"But in the same way as with Hunger Games, we're definitely just trying to pay homage to the originals and the original versions of these characters and the original actors.
"It's exciting and crazy that I got to do either of these projects."
Grace, who also appeared in Scream 7, has insisted she has her limits when it comes to taking on certain roles.
Discussing potential future roles, she recently told Cosmopolitan magazine: "At this point, I definitely don’t do nudity or very hypersexual things.
"I respect anybody who can, but it’s terrifying to me. I don’t know if that’ll ever change.
"It’s not like I only do wholesome things — my character literally gets gutted by Ghostface in Scream — but my dream is to try and be a Disney princess someday."
