Eamonn Holmes’ focus remains on making a “full recovery” after being forced to miss the TRIC Awards as he continues to recover from a stroke suffered earlier this year.

The 66-year-old broadcaster, who has been absent from his regular presenting role on GB News Breakfast since being taken ill in April, issued a message to viewers after GB News was named Best News Programme at the Television and Radio Industries Club Awards for a fourth consecutive year.

The ceremony took place at Grosvenor House in London on Tuesday (23.06.26) evening, but Eamonn was unable to attend as he continues treatment.

The presenter, who is best known for his decades-long television career on This Morning, GMTV, Sunrise and GB News Breakfast, thanked viewers for their support and reflected on his ongoing recovery.

In a message shared after the ceremony, Eamonn said: “I’d just like to say a huge thank you to all the viewers who took the time and trouble to vote.”

He added: “To win for the fourth time in a row is unbelievable, and I’m so proud to be a part of Britain’s number one news channel.

“I’d dearly wished I could have been there to celebrate with the team, but for now my focus has to be on making a full recovery and getting back to my best.”

Eamonn also acknowledged the messages he has received since his health setback.

He said: “I’d also like to thank everyone who has sent their kind get-well messages. They really do mean the world to me.”

The presenter suffered a stroke in April, prompting an outpouring of support from colleagues and viewers.

Confirming the news at the time, a spokesperson for GB News said: “Eamonn was taken ill last week and it was later confirmed he had suffered a stroke.

“He is currently responding well to treatment. Eamonn has asked for privacy as he focuses on getting better.

“His colleagues and everyone at GB News wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to the People’s Channel when he is ready to return.”

GB News chief executive Angelos Frangopoulos also paid tribute to the broadcaster.

He said: “Eamonn is a loved member of the GB News family, and we’re with him every step of the way as he recovers.”

The latest update follows a difficult period for Eamonn, who has faced a series of serious health challenges in recent years.

In 2016 he underwent a double hip replacement before suffering three slipped discs and a dislocated pelvis in 2021.

Major spinal surgery followed in 2022, and the presenter has since spoken openly about the impact the procedures have had on his mobility.

Earlier this year, Eamonn claimed the television industry had become “ageist” and suggested some parts of the sector “don't want to know” older presenters, particularly those using wheelchairs.

Last month, the broadcaster also responded to social media speculation after viewers suggested he had fallen asleep live on air during an interview with Chief Secretary to the Treasury Darren Jones, on GB News Breakfast.

During an appearance at Hayley Palmer’s An Audience With... event at London’s Hippodrome Casino, Eamonn dismissed the claims.

He said: “I was just looking down at my mic pack to see why it was not working, as we don’t have floor managers or camera operators.”

He added: “Apparently I was sleeping? Whatever!”

The veteran presenter has remained a familiar face on British television for more than four decades, from his years hosting GMTV and This Morning alongside former wife Ruth Langsford, to his current role on GB News.
