Eamonn Holmes is recuperating after suffering a stroke last week, and his family insist while he's "doing okay", they are taking things "one step at a time".
Eamonn Holmes' family are taking his recovery "one step at a time".
Over the weekend, it was revealed the former This Morning star had suffered a stroke last week and is recuperating in hospital, and his eldest son Declan, 37, has insisted his dad is "doing okay given the circumstances".
In a statement, he told the Daily Star newspaper: "What happened came as a real shock, but Dad is doing okay given the circumstances and we're taking it one step at a time.
"I just wanted to share a quick message to say we hugely appreciate all the messages, it means a lot to us as a family.
"For now, we're focused on him and keeping things steady around him."
Declan also called for "a bit of privacy" in the aftermath of the health scare.
He added: "We'd really value a bit of privacy as we navigate it, and what lies ahead, but thank you again for the support as it means so much to dad and the rest of the family."
Eamonn has returned to social media since the incident, and shared a sweet picture of his two granddaughters holding up a sign reading: "Get well soom [sic]."
In a post on Instagram, the GB News presenter made a cheeky nod to the youngsters' spelling error and vowed to get better.
He quipped: "As my beautiful Granddaughters put it so well - I will do my best to get well SOOM.
"Thank you for all of your many many good wishes, they give me strength."
A spokesperson for GB News stated that Eamonn, 66, had asked for "privacy" as he recovers and explained that he will return to the channel's breakfast show, which he hosts alongside Ellie Costello, when is "ready".
Alex Armstrong, who normally anchors an evening programme, would present the breakfast show with Costello in Eamonn's absence.
The spokesperson said: "Eamonn has asked for privacy as he focuses on getting better.
"His colleagues and everyone at GB News wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to the people’s channel when he is ready to return."
