Sherrie Hewson has "no idea" if Benidorm will make a comeback.

The 75-year-old actress portrayed hotel manageress Joyce Temple-Savage in the ITV sitcom from 2012 until 2018, but insists she will be among "the last to know" if a Benidorm return is in the mix.

Speaking to The Sun Online, she said: "I wish I could tell you it was coming back, but actors are always the last to know.

"They don’t tell us anything - they only tell the people making it. I genuinely have no idea."

Sherrie admits it would be "a shame" if Benidorm didn't return to our screens, because she believes the repeats are rating well.

She added: "But I think it would be a shame if it didn’t return, because it’s still on twice a day and the ratings are as high as ever.

"Wherever I go, that’s what people want to talk to me about."

In October, former Coronation Street star Sherrie told how she was "desperately" hoping for Benidorm to return.

She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "We are all campaigning for it to come back.

"We are hoping desperately that it comes back and we'd love it because we'd get to go back to Benidorm.

"I love the character Joyce Temple-Savage. Derren Litten wrote that and I thought it was one of the best characters I've ever played.

"I would love it to come back. We'll see, watch this space.

"There isn't a comedy on ITV at the moment so it needs it to come back.

"I'm waiting to hear and I'd catch the plane today."

Sherrie has regularly called for Benidorm to return to screens and suggested last year that it would be "wonderful" if the sitcom were to come back.

She told Best's Suddenly Single podcast: "There's this thing of, 'Is it coming back?', and I keep that alive. It is now a possibility and that would be wonderful because we all miss it desperately."

Last year, Benidorm creator Derren Litten said: "Sherrie does this rumour every couple of years, and Sherrie says that the show is coming back, and she is not s*** stirring, she is hopeful because she loves the show as much as I do."
