A Place in the Sun's Jasmine Harman recalls 'awful' moment male nurse recognised her during smear test
Jasmine Harman told her fans that a male nurse recognised her as the co-host of A Place in the Sun when he examined the star during her smear test.
Jasmine Harman has recalled the "awful" and "embarrassing" moment a male nurse realised he examined the A Place in the Sun co-host host during her smear test.
The 50-year-old star said the run-in happened when she attended the free routine test - which checks the cervix and aims to prevent cervical cancer - in a video shared to Instagram on February 13.
Jasmine started the clip by encouraging women to have their smear test, saying: "This is a bit of an overshare, but I've just been for an appointment, one that I have every three years.
"And you ladies will know what I'm talking about ... the dreaded smear test.
"So I've just been for my smear test, I do go regularly, I think it's really important to go.
"So, having just been, I thought, let me encourage everyone else to go. I know it's not the most enjoyable experience, but it is really important."
The co-presenter of the Channel 4 international house-hunting show - which sees Brits wanting to buy a property in a sunny foreign country - then recalled "one of the most embarrassing moments of my life" when the male nurse recognised her.
Jasmine continued: "And also to share with you an awful story that was so embarrassing that happened on a previous occasion when I was being examined by a male nurse.
"And he looked up and looked at me and went, 'Oh, I've just realised where I recognise you from.'
"So awkward, but anyway, hopefully you won't have a bad experience like that. But do go for your smear test!"
Despite the "awful" moment, Jasmine stressed the importance of getting a smear test.
She captioned the video post with: "Prepare for an over-share (you know me!) as I describe one of the most embarrassing moments of my life!
"Smear tests can be awkward. Sometimes hilariously so… Imagine being recognised from TV mid way through it.
"But the important thing is this: cervical screening prevents cancer. It’s not pleasant. But at least it’s quick. And it could save your life. So if you’ve been delaying yours, here’s your sign to book it.
"And if you’ve got a story that made you cringe or laugh, share it below. The more we talk about it, the less scary it becomes. (sic)"
Some fans also shared their embarrassing smear test moments in the upload's comments section.
One person shared: "I went for an op ‘down below’ as we ladies say and whilst I was being prepared for theatre the male anaesthetist said ‘Oh I know who you’re my neighbour my garden backs into yours.' (sic)"
A second user wrote: "One if my first smear tests when I was in my 20's. The test was done by my GP. He looked up and said, 'I played golf with your Dad at the club last week.' (sic)"
And a third supporter typed: "I went for one once and the male nurse said, 'Oh someone is keen to make an effort today.'
"I thought what?? I'd sprayed body glitter instead of a feminine deodorant (sic)."
