‘It was perfect timing as people were under duress!’ Amanda Holden jokes Covid 19 lockdown made her album a hit
Former Britain's Got talent judge Amanda Holden has downplayed the success of her 2020 debut album Song from my Heart, joking "people were forced to listen" out of Covid 19 lockdown boredom.
Amanda Holden has joked that COVID-19 lockdown boredom helped her debut album soar into the charts - because “people were forced to listen to it as they had nothing else to do".
The former Britain’s Got Talent judge released her debut album, Songs from My Heart, in October 2020 via Universal Records, right in the middle of the global pandemic which kept people indoors.
The LP was a notable success, peaking at number four on the UK Official Albums Chart and becoming 2020’s biggest-selling debut by a UK female artist.
The mother-of-two - who has daughters Lexi and Hollie with husband Chris Hughes - said at the time her children were “flabbergasted” at her album’s success.
Amanda, however, remains humble, crediting the unusual circumstances for helping it climb the charts.
Speaking on Tuesday night (27.01.26) in London at Emin’s album launch at Nolita Social, Bulgari Hotel, Knightsbridge, Holden said: “I was lucky enough to do my own album, in lockdown, which did very well. I think that’s because people were forced to listen to it as they had nothing else to do. But it did get to number 4. It was perfect timing as people were under duress.”
TV star Holden has returned to her musical roots by collaborating with Azerbaijan superstar Emin.
Amanda and Emin duet together on a cover Somethin’ Stupid - which Frank Sinatra and his daughter Nancy sang together in 1967 duet. The song has just been released and is the final track of Emin's forthcoming album Maybe Tomorrow, out March 27.
Amanda was "thrilled" when she was invited to collaborate with Emin on Somethin' Stupid - which was also a number one hit in 2001 for Robbie Williams and Nicole Kidman.
Celebrating the release of their duet, she said: “I was thrilled to be asked to be part of this. I absolutely love singing—it’s where I started. My career took a completely different path; I went off on a tangent. I started in musical theatre, went to drama school, and that’s where my first love really is.”
Continuing to speak at the album launch party attended by BANG Showbiz, Amanda added: “So when I was asked to do this, there was absolutely no way I was going to say no. Any opportunity to sing - I’m thrilled.”
