Danny Dyer is being lined up to star in the second series of The Celebrity Traitors.

The 48-year-old actor is said to have turned down the chance to appear in the BBC programme last year but had a change of heart after watching comedian Alan Carr bluff his way to victory in the hit show's debut series.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Danny was always top of The Celebrity Traitors wish list but had zero interest until seeing the fun and games last autumn.

"As soon as his tune changed, it was all systems go."

The former EastEnders star appeared in a parody of The Traitors for a Comic Relief sketch in 2023 and is seen as a "dream booking" by the BBC because of his straight-talking nature.

The insider added: "Danny is a reality TV booker’s dream signing and will be incredible value, as he’s naturally funny but in a totally different way to Alan Carr.

"Bosses don’t want to repeat the same formula and he’ll be absolute gold."

However, the corporation refused to be drawn on speculation about Danny's involvement.

A BBC spokesman said: "We're not commenting on speculation but details about series two of The Celebrity Traitors will be announced in due course."

Danny - who has also appeared in films such as The Football Factory and The Business - had previously said that he would be interested in becoming a Traitor on the show, which is presented by Claudia Winkleman.

He said: "It’s quite a simple game. I thought it was too complicated but it’s actually just about people manipulating people and a lot of lying. If you’re a Faithful, it’s hard — you’re trying to overact that you’re a Faithful and it backfires on you.

"So if the money’s right, I might get involved in the next series. I think I’d want to be a Traitor, there’s triple bluffs, double bluffs — it’s more fun to be a Traitor, you’ve got a job."

Danny has taken on a variety of projects since departing EastEnders in 2022 and explained that he wanted to "bring stability" to his career by leaving the role of Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter behind on the BBC soap.

He told HeyUGuys.com last year: "Well, I think one of the reasons why I made the decision to leave the soap - and I'll be honest - to bring stability, and it's a hard job to leave.

"We never quite know when the next pay cheque is coming or when your next job.

"You could have a really good run, and then it just stops for seven months, and you go, 'Oh, maybe it's over for me.'

"So, it takes that away but, of course, it's like you're crossed off every cast in this. That's the other thing.

"You're not available. You're getting paid every week, you know, in a high-profile show."
