Danny Dyer has criticised actors who fail to learn their lines.

The 48-year-old star said the "boring" aspect of the job needs to be done first before having fun on set.

Danny is quoted by The Sun newspaper’s bizarre column as saying: "There’s no excuse for not knowing your lines. Some actors don't, and I'm like, 'Why the f*** don’t you know your lines?' I’ve never understood that.

"Do your f****** boring homework, then you can come to work and play with it somewhat. Do the boring bit, then you can express yourself."

Danny has been in Dublin, Ireland, where he shot the thriller One Last Deal, and after he clocked off, work still trumped everything else.

The star added: "Learning dialogue for me is about breaking it down. Two pints of Guinness, that's all I had at night.

"Do your homework man, I’m obsessed with it – you can’t blag this s***."

The actor’s hard work has made Danny feel like he has "finally made it" in the entertainment industry.

Danny had previously been renowned for his "geezer" roles in the likes of movies, the 1999 comedy-drama Human Traffic, and the 2004 sport-action The Football Factory.

But in the upcoming TV thriller The Siege, he is playing hero policeman PC Trevor Lock.

Trevor was taken hostage in a siege on the Iranian embassy in London in 1980, had a six-day stand-off between members of a dissident Iranian group and the SAS, and tackled the leader of the gunmen and saved an SAS soldier’s life before he and 24 other captors were freed.

During a recent appearance on Virgin Radio, Danny said of playing Trevor - who died aged 85 in 2025: "I am playing old bill – I’ve finally made it.

"I’m really excited about playing someone who’s a hero. This man only wanted to help old ladies cross the road and rescue cats out of trees, and he got swept up in this very dangerous situation.

"I went to see his sons the other day. I had a lovely day, I must say. I spent the whole day in Upminster, and they gave me their approval.

“I’m going to be representing Trevor Lock, so it’s going to be very powerful, and it’s very relevant at the moment.”
