I am mourning the man who bought me a telescope when I was five years old, who watched the moon landings with me and taught me to always be curious and interested in everything.
"He was in poor health but it has still been a shock. Any of you who have experienced a similar loss will know how my brother Graham and I are feeling. (sic)"
Lorraine went on to say that her family's focus now is on looking after her 82-year-old mum, Anne.
She added: "Our priority is taking care of my mum and the family would very much appreciate privacy at this distressing time. We will miss you dad. (sic)"

In February 2024, Lorraine said she had taken Fridays off from hosting her eponymous ITV morning magazine show to look after Anne, who was ill at the time.
It came as Lorraine admitted she "don't care" about a tongue-in-cheek X account called @LorraineKWatch - which documents when she does and does not present her programme, which now airs from 9.30am to 10am amid the brutal ITV budget cuts.
Appearing on BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour in February 2024, Lorraine told 48-year-old host Anita Rani: "But you should never comment on things like that if you don't know what is going on in people's lives.
"But I am having to take quite a few Fridays off because my mum is really not well.
"So I can go home now and spend some more time with her and help her a bit more than I have been able to.
"So that is happening just now, but that will change. I have been doing five days a week for 40 years, so I am just taking a wee bit of time off and, obviously, this week is half term, which is why I am able to talk to you!"
