Kirstie Allsopp air lifted to hospital for emergency surgery after beach accident

Kirstie Allsopp has been rushed to hospital in a helicopter after a beach walk went horribly wrong.
The 35-year-old presenter was walking along the beach in Welcombe Mouth, Devon, when she slipped, and was taken to hospital via air ambulance for emergency surgery.
Kirstie shared the scary news with fans on her Instagram page, alongside pictures of her bandaged foot and the location of the accident.
She wrote: “Almost every year since Oscar was born we have celebrated my birthday at Meadowgate, one of my favourite places on earth.
“We have a picnic on the beach at Welcombe Mouth, a swim and a walk back to the house for some cake, unfortunately I slipped on a muddy patch on the steep path, and it took a whole host of people to get me to hospital.”
Kirstie added that her son Oscar “ran as fast as he could to get help”, with the lifeboat crew, paramedics and Cornwall Air Ambulance using the What Three Words app to track her down.
She continued to explain that she “was given a huge amount of painkillers” when medics got to her, so “omitted to ask anyone for their social media details”, but said she remembers ambulance staff called Chris, Jeremy, Lee and Jake.
Kirstie went on: “God only knows what I was like to deal with high as a kite! Everyone at Barnstaple hospital has been amazing, kind caring, so many lovely people doing their absolute best.“
She added that she underwent surgery on her leg, and would be “home soon” - but will require a boot and crutches to gert around.
Kirstie concluded: “I feel very, very lucky that it was possible to reach me and get me to hospital so quickly, and I have a job that I can do on crutches.
“Not a birthday I am going to forget in a hurry and again, THANK YOU to all those who have been involved in my care.“
Comments quickly flooded in from her friends and followers, with one writing: “Oh bless you sorry to hear you have had a fall, we hope that you recover very soon and thank you to all our emergency services for all they do, all the air ambulances do a fab job and thank heavens! Please take care and hope you are back home soon.”
While another added: “Oh my goodness! Wishing you a speedy recovery. We don't bounce very well as we get a bit older. Well done to everyone who came to your aid.”
And a third commented: “Had a very similar accident (although only in a park so easy to reach) last year with the same break and op but with an added ankle break and op too! Rest it elevated as much as you can is my advice! Take care.”
