Lorraine Kelly has revealed the “prickliest” guest on her morning TV show, admitting he “stormed off” the set after being asked an innocent question about his health.

The Scottish TV star was asked on the Experience is Everything podcast if she’d ever struggled with an interview guest - at which point she told Lizzie Dent she hadn’t enjoyed her time with film director and newspaper columnist Michael Winner.

Lorraine said: “A million years ago, if people can remember, he was a movie director.”

While Lizzie called him “notoriously difficult”, Lorraine agreed, and continued: “Prickly to say the least. He was on and he actually stormed out during the break, which was a shame because nobody got to see him.”

She then recalled the interview itself, which had been scheduled to promote a movie he was doing, but also took place after he’d “just had a triple heart bypass”.

Lorraine said: “I happened to say, you know during the break, ‘Gosh how are you doing? Are you alright? Have you recovered? Are you still having to take medication?’”

When she asked him about his health, Michael got angry and told her he wasn’t there to talk about anything other than the film, at which point he removed his microphone and “b******* off”.

Failing to hold back her laughter, Lorraine added: “I thought oh that’s a shame he didn’t do it on air because that would have been quite funny.”

Michael, known for directing films including Scorpio and A Chorus of Disapproval, died in January 2013, aged 77.

Lorraine was recently announced as the new host of the Experience is Everything podcast, which comes from Saga, and said she was more than excited to get her teeth stuck into the role.

She said: “I’m so excited to be the new host of Experience is Everything because it gives me a chance to have in-depth conversations with people to find out what makes them tick and to really talk about their experience of life, no matter what it may be.

“Everybody has got a story to tell and I cannot wait to start the conversation. I’m going to be sitting down with amazing people and we’ll be talking about the experiences that actually matter and the ones that stay with you.”
