Coronation Street legend Eileen Derbyshire living in home for retired celebrities
Eileen Derbyshire played Emily Bishop in Coronation Street from 1961 until 2016, followed by a brief return in 2019.
Coronation Street legend Eileen Derbyshire has moved into a home for retired celebrities.
The 94-year-old actress played Emily Bishop in the ITV soap from 1961 until 2016, followed by a brief return in 2019, and her 60-year-old son, journalist Ollie Holt, gave an update on how she is after giving fans the chance to own some Corrie memorabilia.
Taking to X on Tuesday (01.09.26), he penned: "When I cleared out my mum's cottage, I found a lot of old Coronation St scripts.
"They're nothing fancy but if anyone would like a page or two for a memento, I'd be happy to mail a few out. No charge, obviously."
Ollie, whom Eileen had with her late husband, Thomas W. Holt, shared how his mum is doing after a fan asked about the beloved entertainer.
He said: "She's still going. She's about to turn 95. She's in a home for retired actors and actresses now."
Elieen first appeared as Emily Bishop in 1961, and had many storylines, including her husband Ernest Bishop (Stephen Hancock) being shot, suffering a severe mental breakdown, and being the victim of a murder attempt.
In November 2015, Emily departed Weatherfield in a storyline which saw her travel to Peru to help her nephew Spider Nugent (Martin Hancock) with his charity work.
But in January 2018, Ken Barlow (Bill Roache) revealed that she had returned to live in Edinburgh to care for her niece Freda Burgess (Ali Briggs).
Emily made a returning cameo appearance in October the following year when a brief clip of her wishing Ken a happy 80th birthday aired during an episode.
Eileen played the character for 55 years, making her the longest-serving female cast member in a British soap.
She was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the late Queen Elizabeth's 2010 Birthday Honours list for services to drama.
