Amy Dowden is to undergo another mastectomy this week.
The Strictly Come Dancing professional - who was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2023 and received the all-clear the following February - stressed the surgery is "not to treat a new cancer diagnosis" but came following a discussion with her "incredible" medical team.
She shared on Instagram: "As you all know, I’ve always been very open about my health and the care I receive. So I’d like to start by being clear what I am about to share is not to treat a new cancer diagnosis.
“However, following a recent appointment with my incredible medical team, we’ve decided that I’ll be having another mastectomy this week."
Amy and her Strictly partner Thomas Skinner were voted off on week two of this year's competition, but she's still been a part of the show and is looking forward to making a return soon.
She added: “They’re confident that, all going well, I can expect a straightforward recovery. Once I have healed I look forward to rejoining my Strictly family.
“Of course I’m going to miss not being there so much, but I will be watching from home and look forward to cheering everyone on. Thank you always for all the support. Welsh love Amy xxx (sic)"
A number of Strictly stars and professionals shared their wellwishes in the comments, including former The Apprentice candidate Thomas.
He wrote: "Love ya Amy. Hope it all goes well. You are a legend [heart emoji] (sic)"
Judge Motsi Mabuse commented: "Wishing you all the love, prayers, and positive energy, Amy! You're deeply missed, and we're looking forward to your wonderful return!
Amy publicly documented her cancer treatment in 2023, culminating with her revelation in February 24 that "no evidence of disease" had been found at her latest appointment.
She shared her story in BBC documentaries Strictly Amy: Cancer And Me and Strictly Amy: Crohn's And Me.
After sitting out the 2023 series of Strictly, Amy returned to the dancefloor with JLS star JB Gill in 2024 but had to pull out of the series midway through due to injury, with Lauren Oakley stepping in to take her place.
