Amy Dowden "desperately" wants to become a mum amid her cancer battle.

The Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2023 after she found a lump the day before her and husband Benjamin Jones' honeymoon.

She had a mastectomy and underwent chemotherapy following the diagnosis, and received the all-clear in February 2024, before Amy, 35, recently revealed that she underwent a second mastectomy this year.

Reflecting on her cancer journey and how she is feeling now, Amy told 38-year-old reality TV star Vicky Pattison - who took part in the 2025 series of Strictly Come Dancing - during Channel 4‘s Stand Up to Cancer event on Friday night (12.12.25): "A cancer diagnosis changes you forever, I still receive monthly injections from the oncology unit, I’ve been put into menopause because of my hormone-fed cancer.

"I don’t know if I’ll ever have the honour of becoming a mum, which I desperately want to.

"With changes in my breast, five weeks ago, I had another mastectomy.

"So I’m no longer emotionally attached to my body, but I am so proud of how far it’s come."

Amy is "grateful for another shot at life" and was thrilled she could return to Strictly Come Dancing in September.

However, her time on this year’s series of the BBC’s Latin and Ballroom dance show was short-lived after Amy's celebrity dance partner, The Apprentice 2019 candidate Thomas Skinner, 34, was first to be eliminated.

Amy continued: "I’m so grateful for my medical team, the doctors and nurses who have kept me alive.

"But a cancer diagnosis changes you forever. I’m no longer the person I was, and that’s not by choice."

And the star stressed the importance of support following a cancer diagnosis.

Amy explained: "After I rung that chemo bell, I felt the effects of chemotherapy more than ever. I was drained, I was scared, I had this huge, long journey ahead, and I was at a mental all-time low.

"I couldn’t see how I was going to get Amy back again. I hated the way I looked, I had no energy, and I was petrified.”

"I used to cry myself to sleep, my husband would hear me crying in the shower, I just longed for that old Amy back, and I know I’m never, ever going to get her back.”

Vicky then told Amy: "But this version of you is so beautiful, so brave, so strong, and so inspirational.”
