Wynonna Judd is "in shock" that her friend Rosie O'Donnell declared her to be a Donald Trump supporter.
The former View star has been locked in a war of words with the US president for several years and she recently explained she gives her pal "grace" for her backing the controversial leader, but the 62-year-old singer admitted she was baffled by Rosie's comments.
Wynonna insisted Rosie had "100%" made an assumption about her political beliefs, and added to People magazine: “I’m in shock, just so you know.
“I’ve never spoken to her about politics in my life. She doesn’t know anything about my stuff. I’m an independent."
The No One Else On Earth singer insisted she is "not angry" about the situation, just confused, and stressed she makes a point not to "discuss" politics with anyone.
She added: “I don’t know where it came [from]. It’s complete assumption.
“I heard it and I went, ‘What the…?’ I don’t ever remember talking to her about this, so she’s just assuming.’ I just don’t want drama. So if there’s going to be drama [about it], I’m like, ‘Oh for c***'s sake, there’s so much going on right now in the world. Can we just love each other?’”
Rosie, who moved to Ireland after Donald Trump's re-election, explained that she had assumed her friend's political views based in part on her having performed at Mar-a-Lago in 2023.
She said in a statement: “I just thought as she has performed at Mar-a-Lago that she was [a Trump supporter]. I apologise if I was wrong.”
During her original interview, the 64-year-old comic explained that while she steers clear of Trump's supporters, she makes an exception for her good friend Wynonna and the pair simply don't discuss the former Apprentice star when they get together.
She said on The Tangle with Kyle Ridley podcast: “Now, I am friends with Wynonna Judd, who I love very much, and I’ve known her for many, many years. And she is a supporter of Trump. And somehow, we never bring it up.
"I give her a grace in a way. She’s had so much in her life with her mom taking her own life and just the complicated nature of her upbringing, and I really love her, and I care about her, and, for some reason, I’m able to put that aside when we interact.”
