Rupert Grint and Daisy Ridley have joined the cast of Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol.

The Harry Potter actor and the Star Wars actress are among the names to have signed up to join Johnny Depp in Ty West's upcoming take on Charles Dickens' festive classic, with Sam Claflin, Charlie Murphy, Arthur Conti and Ellie Bamber also added to the cast, Deadline reports.

The film - which will also star Andrea Riseborough, Sir Ian McKellen and Tramell Tillman opposite the Pirates of the Caribbean actor in the title role - will be released by Paramount Pictures on 13 November 2026.

While Rupert is believed to be playing Bob Cratchit, Scrooge's employee, it is unknown what roles will be taken by the others.

Nathaniel Halpern has written the scrips for Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, which has been described as "a thrilling ghost story set in Dickens’ London, following one man’s supernatural journey to face his past, present and future and fight for a second chance."

The classic story sees an elderly miser visited on Christmas Eve by the ghost of his former business partner and the spirits of Christmas Past, Christmas Present and Christmas Yet to Come, who urge him to change his ways.

It's the second big screen project based on the book heading into production with Willem Dafoe set to play Scrooge in another movie for Warner Bros. being directed by Robert Eggers.

There have been countless adaptations of the book over the years, with Alastair Sim's 1951 turn as Scrooge regarded as one of the best.

In 1970, Albert Finney played the title role in Scrooge, with Alec Guinness playing Marley, while 1992's The Muppet Christmas Carol saw Michael Caine take on the lead.

Disney has had a number of adaptations, including 1983's Mickey's Christmas Carol featurette, and 2009's performance capture film from Robert Zemeckis, which starred Jim Carrey as Scrooge and the three spirits.

Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds starred in Spirited, a modern comedy musical take on the story in 2022, while Bill Murray's 1988 comedy Scrooged was also inspired by the tale.

Depp has started getting back to acting following his widely publicised legal battles with his ex-wife Amber Heard. He returned to the big screen in 2023 French language film Jeanne du Barry, which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023, and he's also going to be seen in new movie Day Drinker, which is due for release next year.

In Day Drinker, Depp was paired with director Marc Webb and co-star Penélope Cruz for a shoot in Spain which is believed to have wrapped this month.

In a statement announcing the project, filmmaker Marc said: "We’re in a beautiful location with a fantastic crew and a thrilling, ferocious story to tell.

"This is gonna be fun."

The film marks Penelope's fourth collaboration with Johnny after Blow, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Murder on the Orient Express.

Day Drinker follows the story of a private-yacht bartender, played by Madelyn Cline, who becomes entangled with a mysterious guest onboard, portrayed by Johnny.
